David Kugultinov span>
David Nikititch Kugultinov (Kugultinov Dawa) was born 13 March in 1922 in the village of Kalmyk, the son of a schoolteacher. The formation of Kugultinov as a poet greatly influenced by the Kalmyk national epic "Dzhangar."
At 12, he published his first poem (and the theme was the farm labor) and was presented with a volume of . At 18, the young man admitted to the Union of Writers, and in 1941 he went to the front.
In 1944, together with other Kalmyks were deported and met Victory Day in a concentration camp. In the future, some 15 years in exile in the Polar Norilsk.
In 1956, David Nikititch was rehabilitated and restored in the ranks of the Communist Party and the Union of Soviet Writers, the following year he returned to Kalmykia. In 1957, as part of the initiative group, he took an active part in the renewal of the autonomy of Kalmykia. In 1960 he graduated with honors from an external Literature Institute named after M. Gorky in Moscow. He was engaged in literary work in Elista, Kalmykia, led the Union of Writers.
Since the mid-1960s, in connection with the publication of a collection of poems, "I am your same age," Kugultinov poetry became widely known. Union of Soviet Writers collection was nominated for the Lenin Prize, and in 1967 the poet was awarded the State Prize of the RSFSR Gorky.
In the early 1970s Kugultinov became secretary of the Union of Writers of the RSFSR, and then a member of the Union of Soviet Writers. In 1976, his book of poems, "The Call of April" was awarded the State Prize of the USSR.
Life experience so shared the fate of his people, has identified the main theme of his work: integrity, honesty and freedom. In poetry Kugultinov along with a deep philosophical understanding of reality is always a humanistic approach, traditionally inherent to the great Russian literature and Russian culture.
In 2002 in Moscow published works of David Nikiticha Kugultinov in three volumes. In recent years, the poet was the chairman of the Board of Elders at the Head of the Republic of Kalmykia.
