Day MELIORATOR

Today marks professional holiday of workers of the land — the people, thanks to the work which is a radical upgrading and revitalization of land. Today Russia celebrates the Day MELIORATOR.

Day MELIORATOR established by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR from May 24 in 1976. In the Russian holiday introduced in 2000 by presidential decree and is celebrated annually on the first Sunday of June.

Land Reclamation (from the Latin melioratio — improvement) is called a set of technical, organizational and economic measures aimed at radically improving the land. In recent years, the problems of land reclamation and connected scientists begin to solve the problem of land reclamation from the scientific point of view.

The objectives of Reclamation, and, therefore, land reclamation, including the creation of favorable conditions for agriculture: soil elevation, control and monitoring of water, air, heat and food regime and the regime of the soil humidity. Irrigators are concerned about changes in temperature and air movement in the surface layer of the atmosphere, contribute to the improvement of the countryside and improving the environment. Irrigators seek to create favorable conditions not only for the person working the land, but also for the inhabitants of flora and fauna.

The result of land reclamation is the development of agriculture: to provide a more stable yields of crops used efficiently land fund of the country, created a solid base for animal feed, is an intensive reclamation of desert and wetlands.

Reclamation work — irrigation, drainage, colmatage, river regulation — were also carried out in China, Korea, Algeria, the Arabian peninsula, in Central Africa. Irrigation, one of the main activities of Reclamation, is the biggest concern. Thus, by the early 19th century, the world was watered 8,000,000 hectares, and by the early 20th century, this figure had increased to 48 million hectares.
