Day of the Baltic Fleet

18 May in 1703 a fleet of 30 boats with soldiers of the Transfiguration and the Semenov regiment under the command Peter 573 scored first military victory by capturing the mouth of the Neva River two Swedish warships — " Gedan " and " Astrild ."

This day is considered to be the birthday of the Russian Baltic Fleet.

All the participants of the battle received a special medal with the inscription " is unprecedented ."

Today, the oldest Russian fleet is a multiservice operational and strategic alliances that can operate effectively at sea, in the air and on land. It consists of more than 100 warships, 150 aircraft and helicopters of naval aviation.
