International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade (International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade) is celebrated every year for the past several years. A Resolution of the General Assembly came December 17 in 2007.

The task of the international date — to keep the memory of the transatlantic trade in human beings and slavery as well as to future generations to explain the causes and consequences these phenomena. An equally important goal — to convey to the public the information about the dangers posed by racial prejudice. In this regard, UN experts have created a training and education program, which should include educational institutions and community organizations.

Commemorative events held in many countries 25 March devoted millions of people who have become victims in their time of slavery. Participants in the program are trying to figure out who these people were, how their fate, which they were able to keep the memory of myself.

The transatlantic slave trade, which lasted 400 years, has become the most popular in the history of mankind forced displacement of people over a long distance . According to UNESCO, in that era were shipped from Africa 25-30 million people. Slaves shackled in irons and taken to North and South America. For four centuries the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean has become a common grave of millions of people who did not survive the hard way. In addition, millions of people have died after arrival at the destination — from torture and backbreaking slave labor.
