5 November in 1605 by hackers was planned conspiracy against King James I and members of Parliament.
Catholics had high hopes for the King, believing that he will cancel the penalties and restrictions imposed on Catholics under Queen 1134 Elizabeth, but their hopes were not justified. Then a group of conspirators decided on an extra step, which went down in history as the "Gunpowder Plot." Robert Keytsbi offered to blow up the Houses of Parliament during the opening ceremony of the annual session of the House of Lords.
The purpose of the alleged explosion was the murder of the king, the change of power in the country and the accession to the throne of a Catholic king. For the implementation of undermining them was purchased 36 barrels of gunpowder and stored in a cellar under the House of Lords.
But the plot was suddenly disrupted. On the eve of the planned explosion, one participant sent his friend a letter to Lord Monteagle, in which he asked him not to attend Parliament on November 5. Several hours later, a letter was in the hands of the king. James I ordered a search cellars of Parliament, where they found 36 barrels of gunpowder and Guy Fawkes, who had envisaged a minute to set fire to the fuse leading to the basement filled with gunpowder under the House of Lords.
Portrait of Guy Fawkes after inhuman torture and abuse Guy Fawkes gave all the names of the attackers. All the conspirators were publicly executed, and Guy Fawkes quartered. Londoners in gratitude for deliverance from the king of death was burning bonfires in the streets. Over time, this tradition has evolved into a great event, and were burned at the stake effigies of Guy Fawkes, the symbols "Gunpowder Plot».
According to some sources, the plot could not be realized because the acquired gunpowder was damp and old, and set fire to it was not possible. Some historians even believe that the "Gunpowder Plot" was coined by King James I in order to strengthen his power, because quietly push through Parliament with 36 barrels of gunpowder was impossible. Perhaps this was done in order to Parliament imposed additional restrictions on the rights of Catholics.
In England «Bonfire Night» (Bonfire Night) decided to invite guests to a gala dinner, where a highlight is the burning of effigies of Guy Fawkes. All the guests are located on site, is launching firecrackers, set fire to the effigy burning fire and nice talking to each other. Traditionally, November 5, prepare mashed potatoes with thick English sausages, grilled and baked potatoes in the coals, and eat it with a pinch of salt.
There is another dish on Guy Fawkes Day — BBQ chicken drumsticks with a bit of sugar cabbage and carrot salad «coleslaw», mayonnaise, and for dessert, toffee apples with syrup used to make toffee. Children paint the coal face "camouflage" and happily running around the fire, unaware of the true purpose of the holiday.
