December 19 in 1972, the General Assembly of the United Nations established the World Development Information Day (World Development Information Day), the purpose of which was to draw the attention of world public opinion to development problems and the need to strengthen international cooperation to solve them.
Assembly decided that the date for the Day should coincide with the date of the International Day of United Nations — October 24.
World Development Information Day was later identified as the date of the adoption in 1970 of the International Development Strategy for the Second Decade of the United Nations.
The Assembly felt that improving the dissemination of information and the mobilization of public opinion, especially among young people, were to lead to greater awareness of the problems of development would, therefore, increased efforts in the area of ??international cooperation for development.
