Day riot

In accordance with the order number 190, signed by March 1 2002 Interior Minister Boris Gryzlov, on October 3 became Day riot police (OMON — Special Purpose Detachment mobile previously — a special police squad ).

The order reads:

«special police detachments enforcement bodies were first created in accordance with the Order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the USSR from October 3, 1988 number 0206 in the three republics, members of the former Soviet Union (Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan) and 14 regions of the Russian Federation (including the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Bashkir ASSR, ATC Krasnodar, Krasnoyarsk Krai Executive Committee, Department of Internal Affairs of Voronezh, Irkutsk, Kuibyshev, Novosibirsk, Perm, Rostov, Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk oblast executive committees, Moscow City Police, Mosoblispolkoma, Lenoblgorispolkomov)».

riot — it's police force, the declared purpose of which — performing hazardous jobs in urban areas, including: the capture and elimination of armed criminals, armed support of the city police patrols and road traffic police posts;
Law Enforcement at mass public events. OMON units also engaged to meet the challenges of security and safety in the "hot spots" on the territory of Russia.

Typically, OMON units are better armed than the usual police and employees are trained. OMON units are the most mobile and professionally trained to act in emergency situations.
