World Heart Day (World Heart Day), celebrated annually on the last Sunday in September, was first organized in 1999 on the initiative of the World Heart Federation. This action was supported by the World Health Organization (WHO), UNESCO and other relevant organizations.
The aim of introducing a new date — to raise awareness in the community of danger, which is caused by an epidemic of cardiovascular disease in the world, as well as to initiate a comprehensive preventive measures against coronary diseases and stroke in all groups. World Heart Day is held under the motto "A Heart for life».
In partnership with WHO, the World Heart Federation is carrying out activities in more than 100 countries. In the day's program included massive heart health checks, public talks, stage shows, scientific forums, exhibitions, concerts, festivals, organized walks and sports.
Currently, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in the world : every year they take more than 17 million lives. Risk factors for heart disease and stroke include raised blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels, smoking, inadequate intake of fruit and vegetables, overweight, obesity and physical inactivity.
