9 September in 1991 by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Moldova, number 196 was abolished State Security Committee of the Republic of Moldova, and on this basis is formed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). 9 September 1997 on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of the founding of the Ministry of National Security Presidential Decree established a professional holiday — Day of State Security of the Republic of Moldova.
23 December in 1999 the Moldovan Parliament adopted the Law on Information and Security Service of the Republic of Moldova. Thus, the process was completed the reorganization of the Ministry.
