Day of Russian Guards

2 September celebrates the Day of the Russian Guard. This holiday set December 22 in 2000 by decree of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin in connection with the 300th anniversary of the Russian Guard (Presidential Decree number 2032 of December 22, 2000 "On establishing the Day of Russian GuardsĀ»).

Russian Imperial Guard was established at the beginning of the reign of Peter of the Transfiguration and the Semenov regiment. In 1918 it was dissolved and re-established in the Great Patriotic War (1941-1945). Distinguished near Smolensk in 1941, four infantry divisions under the order of were named Guards. The title "Guards" is awarded to military units, ships, connections and associations of the Soviet armed forces distinguished themselves in combat during World War II. Guards military unit received a banner, and personnel — Guards rank and badge.
