Border Guards Day of Kazakhstan

18 August celebrate their professional holiday, the border guards of Kazakhstan. On this day in 1992, President Nursultan Nazarbayev signed a decree "On the formation of the border troops." However, there was an official date in the calendar of public holidays in Kazakhstan only 29 August in 2012.

The need for their own border troops from Kazakhstan came after secession from the USSR in 1991 . New units were formed on the basis of the Red East Frontier District, headquartered in Alma-Ata, who was considered one of the strongest in the Soviet Union. Despite this country to create their troops had to build from the ground up.

In connection with the departure of Russian troops to their homeland for the first few years of Kazakhstan's sovereignty officers updated by almost 100 percent. So at first Kazakh border service is a shortage of management personnel. However, to date, almost all experts are trained in the country. Half of the personnel of the Border Patrol now represent employees under contract.

After obtaining independence has also changed the length and nature of the borders. During Soviet times, only guarded frontier with China length of 1.7 thousand kilometers. Now part of the Border Service of Kazakhstan control more than 15,000 kilometers of border with five countries, are deployed not only in the mountains and in the wilderness, but also in the Caspian Sea as well as in the air.

The most heavily guarded border with China, which faces huge problems of smuggling, drug trafficking and illegal migration. However, the border with Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan also have their own characteristics. For dozens of years, the inhabitants of related republics used to move freely from the territory of one State to another, which creates some difficulties for the border in these areas.
